Shipments of beer and beerlike beverages rose 6.4% year on year to 40.55 million cases in April, according to data released Friday by Japan’s five major beer producers.The second straight month of growth 逆サポwas fueled by a 35.4% surge in shipments of low-price “third beers” on the back of growing price consciousness among consumers.Also buoying the overall figure was a recovery in shipments by Sapporo Breweries Ltd. and other brewers 潮吹きthat saw their numbers drop after price hikes in April 2008.One case of beer contains the equivalent of 20 633ml bottles.
